There are few things which I love more than combining a brilliant fabric with a super simple pattern. After all, if your pattern is too complex, it’ll only distract from your gorgeous fabric, right?

I bought 1 fat quarter of Nani Iro’s Little Letter fabric, a lovely brushed cotton ($5.50 at Miss Matatabi). I wanted to turn it into a warm Winter skirt, so I added a cotton lining.

So how did I make this little skirt? Below I explain how I did it; I have no idea whether this is an orthodox way of working, but it was fast (about 1.5 hours) and the result is quite nice.

The outside skirt is made out of two rectangles (or one, if your fabric is wide enough), and so is the lining. The rectangles for the skirt and lining have the same width; I made the lining 1 cm (0.4 inch) shorter so it doesn’t show from the outside. 

The measurements of the skirt are entirely up to you, and depend on the age of your child, and how wide and long you want the skirt to be. For my almost-3-year-old, I had enough with 1 fat quarter for the skirt, and 1 for the lining.
