Week 7 of the Kids’ Clothes Belgian Style series, and we finally have a boys outfit! Our guest is Maria from La Inglesita, a bilingual sewing blog (Spanish/English). Maria is based in Seville, Spain, and sews for her adorable son and daughter. Many of you probably know Maria from last season’s Project Run & Play, where she reached the fifth round with some great creations. I personally love her great sense of shape and color, but perhaps I adore Maria most for how she manages to combine her job an an architect (!) with creating one beautiful and original outfit after the other.
So if you haven’t already, make sure the visit Maria’s blog for tons of inspiration!

Hi StraightGrain readers!
Did you know boys dress this cool in Belgium?

I came across Anne Kurris about a year ago when I fell for this dress and made one for my daughter. I love their combination of bold and bright colours in classic style but with modern and fun twists. Anne Kurris is probably my favourite kids designer brand at the moment, so when An asked me about her series you can guess the rest.
This time it was my boy´s turn (and the first boys look in the series I believe)
I made him a shirt in cotton poplin with a pop of colour in mandatory mustard on the cuffs and collar. The accent fabric is by Heather Ross far far away collection. A pair of bermudas and a store-bought T shirt completes the anne kurris look. Although I doubt he´ll ever wear his shirt undone because is just not practical on a toddler, I think it looks coooooool.
The pattern for the shirt is a BurdaStyle magazine pattern and the pants are from Ottobre. I modified the bottoms heavily due to my silliness and a shortage of fabric. I cut out 3 front legs by mistake and just one back and, as the fabric was upcycled from one of my brother´s worn out pants, I didn´t have any more left to cut another back leg in one piece so I patchworked two pieces and made a feature out of my mistake by adding a false pocket flap 🙂
Both patterns still need alterations to better fit my boy because I suspect than he´s three different sizes at the same time, one for pants, one for shirts and another for lenght of sleeves and pants. I still have to find the perfect boy´s shirt pattern. Any suggestion?
I´ve enjoyed so much planning this look and have so many other ideas for the spring. I hope you´re inspired too and I look forward to see the other belgian looks.
Thanks An for hosting this series and letting us all know that we need is yellow in our wardrobes!!!
And big thanks for having me here today.
Enjoy the series
